The city of Daejeon is a leading hub in the field of R&D and higher education in Northeast Asia. Daedeok Innopolis started in 1973 as the first government funded Research Park. Daedeok Innopolis is a unique science cluster including over 70 world class research institutes with more than 20,000 researchers and many higher educations including Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST). Regarding this infrastructure, Daejeon is known as the Silicon Valley of Asia. Daejeon has been selected as the site for the headquarters of ‘the International Science Business Belt’ is a large-scale project initiated and funded by national governments to nurture and develop basic science including life science as well as applied science into advanced technologies.

Daejeon is geographically located at the heart of the nation and functions as a transportation hub. Furthermore, the headquarters of three armed forces and their training institutions are in the city. Nowadays, Daejeon is thriving even further as a major governmental body in the areas of business & economy, food, agriculture, healthcare, medicine and biotechnology are relocated in Sejong, the new administrative capital of Korea, which is only 20 kilometers away from downtown Daejeon. The city offers a comfortable commute for all delegates through the high-speed KTX, where the Incheon International Airport is only 2 hours away, while downtown Seoul takes 50 minutes. Daejeon ultimately offers a wide range of possibilities to those traveling in Korea: hot springs, temples, cultural heritage sites, shopping areas and nightlife.
